How do I configure and manage Taco Chats settings?
Where to find Taco Chats settings
Go to your HeyTaco admin dashboard → Settings and scroll to the Taco Chats section. You can also click Settings above the Upcoming Chats table on the Admin → Taco Chats page.
Taco Chats settings at a glance
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Frequency | Weekly, Every two weeks, Monthly | How often teammates get matched for a chat. |
| Chat times | Random days & times, Fixed day & time | When each round of chats opens in Slack. |
| Auto-add on first taco | On / Off | Adds new teammates to Taco Chats the first time they give a taco. |
| Nudge a video call | On / Off | When HeyTaco signs off, it nudges one person in the pair to set up a quick video call. |
How to change how often chats happen
Use the Frequency setting to choose weekly, every two weeks, or monthly matches. A round that's already scheduled keeps its date; the new frequency applies starting with the next round.
How to choose when chats start
Random days & times spreads each round's chats across Tuesday–Thursday, 10am–3pm in your team's local time, so they don't all start at once. This is the default and works well for most teams.
Fixed day & time opens every chat at the same day and time. Pick this if you want Taco Chats to feel like a team ritual (for example, every other Wednesday at 11am).
Chats that are already scheduled keep their times when you switch.
How to automatically add new teammates
Turn on Auto-add on first taco and HeyTaco will add teammates to Taco Chats the first time they give a taco. They're added quietly, with no message, and can opt out anytime in their profile settings. This keeps Taco Chats up to date as new people join, without any admin work.
How to encourage face-to-face time
Turn on Nudge a video call and, when HeyTaco signs off from a Taco Chat, it'll nudge a random person in the pair to hop on a video call. Video calls are always optional; this is just a friendly push for teams that want more face time.
