What happens to tacos when someone leaves or their account is deactivated?
When a team member leaves, their data is preserved — their taco history, received totals, and recognition record all stay intact. The one change: they're removed from the leaderboard, and the company or group would not be paying for their continued use as an inactive member.
Their received taco count
Stays in the record permanently. Recognition they received doesn't disappear just because they've left, this keeps the "kudos" they received from others in tact- and does not diminish the number of the "tacos given" tally for colleagues.
Their redeemable balance
Stays on their account, but they may not be able to access it once they've been removed from Slack or Microsoft Teams. Since HeyTaco uses Slack/Teams to sign in, losing access there usually means losing access to HeyTaco too.
Best practice: give departing team members a heads-up to redeem any rewards they'd like before their last day, or options on how to gift their tacos as bonuses to other people. You can learn about how an admin can do this here.
Their ability to give tacos
Once they're deactivated in Slack or Teams, they can no longer give tacos. Any unspent daily tacos simply aren't used — they don't transfer anywhere.
What admins can see
Admins can still see a deactivated user's taco history and stats. Their data isn't deleted.
If someone rejoins later
If a team member comes back and rejoins your Slack or Teams workspace, they'll be able to sign back into HeyTaco and their history will still be there.
