How it works
HeyTaco is peer recognition software that lives inside Microsoft Teams — no separate app, no extra login. Recognition happens where work already happens.
Every team member gets 5 tacos to give each day. To send one, mention a teammate, add a message of appreciation, and drop in a taco. Tacos reset at midnight in each person's time zone, keeping recognition consistent and evenly spread across the team.
Activity & Leaderboards
All taco activity surfaces in a central feed, so appreciation is visible across every team and channel. The leaderboard tracks tacos given and received, filterable by time frame — weekly, quarterly, custom — and is a popular tool for celebrating top givers and receivers across the team.
Values Tagging
Teams can use hashtags to connect recognition to company core values — like #excellence or #customer-first. The tags page makes it easy to see which values are showing up in real moments, and is commonly used to identify and celebrate core value champions quarterly or annually.
Rewards
Team members accumulate tacos and can redeem them in the Taco Shop. Admins can offer three types of rewards:
- Custom rewards — time off, company swag, coffee with the CEO, and anything else you create
- Collaborative rewards — experiences teams pool their tacos toward, like a virtual happy hour, a charity donation, or leaving early on a Friday
- Gift cards — a catalog of 1,800+ options; HeyTaco handles the fulfillment automatically
On average, HeyTaco customers offer around 8 rewards across all three types to account for different appreciation styles.
Milestones
HeyTaco automatically celebrates work anniversaries and birthdays with tacos. Employees choose how they want to be recognized — publicly in the channel, privately via direct message, or not at all. Anniversary tacos can be set to increase progressively the longer someone's been with the company.
Admin Controls & Analytics
The admin dashboard gives a real-time view of taco activity, recognition reports, and rewards data. Admins can issue taco bonuses — extra tacos added to an employee's redeemable balance — great for employee referrals or other engagement initiatives. The people page lets admins manage subscriptions, roles, and even customize daily taco limits per person.
