How to use this
Drop it into your onboarding deck, send it to new hires on day one, or present it at orientation. Every slide is editable.
Customizing the deck
The deck opens with an admins-only slide. Make these quick calls, then delete that slide before you share the kit.
- Pick your platform. The kit works for Slack or Microsoft Teams. The "Slack extras" slide is Slack-only, so delete it if you're on Teams.
- Reactions or Stickers turned off? Remove that half of the "Slack extras" slide.
- Using Values tags? On "What tacos are for," swap the placeholder hashtags for your real ones.
- No Rewards or Taco Shop? Drop the rewards mentions on "What is HeyTaco?" and "The basics."
- Name your admins. Swap "your HeyTaco admins" for the actual people new hires should ask.

What is HeyTaco?
A peer recognition tool that lives right inside Slack or Microsoft Teams โ no new app to log into.
- Everyone gets 5 tacos a day to give away.
- Tag a teammate, add ๐ฎ, and say why.
- Tacos show up on leaderboards โ and can unlock rewards.
No extra logins. Just gratitude, right where you already work.
The basics
Two simple motions. That's the whole system.
Give: giving a taco ๐ค
You start each day with 5 tacos. Tag a teammate, add ๐ฎ, and tell them why. You get 5 tacos a day, reset at midnight โ use 'em or lose 'em.
Get: getting a taco ๐
Every taco you receive shows up in your activity feed and on the leaderboard. There's no cap on what you can receive โ and they may be redeemable for rewards.
How to give a taco
Tag someone, write why, add ๐ฎ โ that's it.
@Jordan thanks for jumping on that client call last minute! ๐ฎ
That's it โ Jordan just got a taco, and everyone in the channel saw it.
Tagging more than one person? Everyone mentioned gets the full number of tacos in your message โ it's not split between them. One ๐ฎ tagging two people means each person gets 1 taco; two ๐ฎ๐ฎ means each gets 2.
@Marcus @Elena awesome work on the sales call! ๐ฎ
Marcus and Elena each get 1 taco โ the full amount in the message goes to everyone tagged, not divided up.
You can also react to a message with ๐ฎ to give credit instantly.
Slack extras
A couple of Slack-only ways to spread the love.
Taco reactions ๐ฎ
React to any message with the ๐ฎ emoji and HeyTaco gives a taco to whoever's tagged in it. Tag more than one person? Everyone tagged gets a taco (as long as you've got enough left to give). No one tagged? The taco goes to whoever wrote the message โ unless that's you.
Stickers ๐จ
Send a HeyTaco sticker to react or celebrate a win โ browse and send them from the Stickers tab in the HeyTaco app.
What tacos are for
Be specific. "Thanks for the help" is nice. "Thanks for staying late to fix checkout before launch" is a taco people remember.
- Any win, big or small. Landed the client or untangled a scheduling mess โ it all counts.
- Living our values. Someone modeled what we stand for? Tag it with a value hashtag so it sticks: #teamwork, #ownership, #customerfirst.
- Helping a teammate. Jumped in outside your role or team? That's exactly what tacos are for.
Taco troubleshooting
Taco didn't land? It's almost always one of these.
- Didn't @mention them. Your message has to @mention them by name, not just describe them.
- Edited after sending. HeyTaco only reads the original message. Edits don't count.
- Over your daily limit. Tacos multiply. Tag 3 people with ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ and that's 9 tacos โ more than your daily 5, so it won't go through.
- Wrong channel. HeyTaco has to be in the channel where the taco was given.
Still stuck? Reach out to your HeyTaco admins or email us at support@heytaco.com.
Your first taco challenge
Your first 5 tacos are waiting. Here's how to spend two of them this week:
- Thank a helper. Give a taco to someone who helped you this week, and say exactly what they did.
- Meet someone new. Give one to someone you haven't met yet. A warm welcome counts.
Then keep an eye on your activity feed. Tacos have a way of coming back around. ๐ฎ
